I just hung up from the conference call interview with author Kathy Reichs. Her books and life were the inspiration for the TV series Bones. She was delightful and talkative and everyone seemed to enjoy talking to her.
Of course, I will post the entire transcript of the interview as soon I can, but here are a couple of bits of info to tease you and get you to check back for the entire interview.
Kathy answered my question with advice for anyone aspiring to become a forensic anthropologist and she seemed pleased that some of you are now considering that as a career. [Thanks for the question, Daphné]
She told us her opinion about Booth and Brennan getting together.
She also clarified a bit about how the book character of Tempe is similar and different from the TV Tempe and where each of them is similar or different from her. It’s pretty cool, I can’t wait to post it for you!
Karen Jobim asked about the rumor that Kathy is writing a young adult novel. Kathy said that she is working one and it will be out in November. She gave a touch of info about the new character that this novel will involve and it’s not Temperance! She has another Tempe novel coming out in August too.
Be sure to check back for the entire interview!
Did you notice the new trivia items last night on Bones? We got to see the vehicles that Hodgins and Angela drive. Both were very different than we might have imagined.
First, Hodgins drives a tiny car with the steering wheel on the left side, UK style. We saw him driving it when he gave Sweets a lift home the day of the subway accident. I was fascinated by the fact that he chooses to drive a car with the steering wheel on the opposite side from most US cars, but he didn’t offer an explanation.
Then, in a different scene, we saw Angela giving [Daisy] a ride in her boring-colored minivan. That choice of vehicle is completely different from Angela…or at least it would seem so. She explained that since she is a painter, the minivan offers her enough room to carry supplies. She also claimed to be really bad a parallel parking, so she uses the back-up camera for that. Who knew?
Were you as surprised as I was to see both of these cars driven by the characters? What do you think of these new facts?
Episode 5.16 The Parts in the Sum of the Whole – 100th Episode Air Date: April 8, 2010

Thanks so much to Rebecca for this tip! Here are Michael Ausiello’s latest tidbits of spoilerage:
Question: Thanks for the all-Bones AA, but how could Caroline have helped with their first case when Brennan didn’t meet her until the season 1 episode, “Man in the Morgue?” – Hank Ausiello: Don’t you worry. Bones‘ continuity policy covered their tracks with one simple line, delivered by Booth to Brennan. Question: I noticed via Twitpic that you not only received the 100th episode of Bones, but the 99th as well. Any scoop — especially about page 187? —JR Ausiello: There’s actually a little page 187 nugget in my all-Bones AA. Yes, I realize I billed the column as being strictly about the 100th episode, but I accidentally intentionally included a little 99 scoopbit to see if you were paying attention. Question: What was the most shocking moment in Bones‘ 100th episode? —Diane Ausiello: The one that prompted Sweets to declare, “My book is crap!” [Source: EW]

Here’s some scoop from Matt Mitovich. Some is new info, some, the same old stuff:
I’ve heard that the ‘Bones‘ fan base is gong to be split over the 100th episode. What do you think? Do we need to prepare ourselves with liquor? – dovepage via Twitter I’d go easy on the sauce, if only because there are scenes you definitely won’t want to forget the morning after. If you are of age and do imbibe, I suggest tequila as an exceptionally appropriate choice, considering… well, you’ll see. Can I bribe you with a case of wine to spill the beans on the ‘Bones’ flashback episode? – Christine What’s with all the booze talk? No amount of merlot would be able to soothe sting I’d feel from Fox if I spilled too much, but I’ll tease you with this: Brennan does something – twice – that turns Booth on a bit. As Booth works his first case with Brennan, Caroline Julian is moved to note: “Watching you two together is like being at prom!” Bones shares with a gal pal, regarding new acquaintance Booth: “I do respond to the breadth of his shoulders and his strong jawline.” Swoon. When is the 100th episode of ‘Bones’ airing? – Kimberley Oh yeah, that: The date is April 8. Oh, and did I mention that when Michaela Conlin told The Big Tease (eighth item) that Angela was a “forensics artist” before joining up with the Jeffersonian, she was, um, stretching the truth? Not unless “forensic artists” work on sidewalks drawing pictures of kids with giant heads riding skateboards. [Source: Fancast]

This is one time when I am a fan of Michael Ausiello. Sometimes I get frustratied with him because he gives us such convoluted “spoilers” that they really don’t tell us much of anything. Not so, this time!
He’s included a first look at the way that Booth & Brennan first met in his latest Ausiello files clip. It’s very cool!! Although the video clip has been made so that I can’t embed it, you can go watch it here.

This is fun! People submitted ideas about what Hodgins should blow up next and the producers picked their favorites. I think we should definitely watch for these on upcoming new episodes of Bones!
The Bones producers went through all the submissions to the “What should Hodgins blow up in the lab” question. Thanks to everyone who participated! Here are their three favorite answers (as well as three more honorable mentions): FAVORITES He should blow up the McKinley Psychiatric Hospital but only so Zack can escape again, not to destroy the entire thing and everyone in it. Submitted by Amanda Gunther Parker should have to do a science project, and Booth can’t help him, so it is Squints to the rescue. Hodgins helps Parker make an awesome volcano, and they blow it up. Submitted by Claire Martin When/if he and Angela ever get married, he should blow up the wedding cake. Submitted by Sarah Pemberton HONORABLE MENTIONS He should blow up something you’d typically find in an everyday office like…a photocopier. Submitted by Ash If you seal up dry ice in a plastic container, the ice thaws to gas form and the container explodes. The plastic container, now hard and brittle from the freeze, breaks into many shards and explodes like a bomb. Submitted by Libby Gee My 3-year-old wants Hodgins to blow up a cartoon. My 9-year-old suggests a TV. I’m partial to an octopus. I’m picturing Cam and Bones walking in at just the right time and something sticking to someone. Submitted by Eli Silverman [Source: Boneyard Times]

Do you have any ideas that aren’t mentioned here? Leave a comment to let us know!
I have a friend with Asperger’s syndrome. It’s a very high-functioning form of autism and it’s more common than you may think. And it’s even possibly closer to home than many Bones fans think.
I have actually wondered if perhaps our favorite forensic anthropologist could have a form of Asperger’s, but didn’t dare bring up the subject to other Bones fans, for fear of being attacked in the comments. But if you or someone you know has Asperger’s, you know it’s not such a big surprise.
Tomorrow night the new drama Parenthood premieres and one of the children is diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome. So an article on NJ.com looked into the way that people with autism are dealt with on TV. One of the people they talked to was Hart Hanson, creator of Bones. Here are several paragraphs from the article, but I encourage you to go read it in its entirety:
“Parenthood” is not the first TV show to feature a regular character with the condition — but it’s one of the first to openly acknowledge that. Both physicist Sheldon Cooper played by Jim Parsons on the CBS sitcom “Big Bang Theory” and forensic anthropolgist Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel) on the Fox crime drama “Bones” would appear to be classic “Aspies,” as many of those with the condition call themselves. They are smart and focused on subjects they care about, but have great difficulty understanding rules of social interaction that come easily to those around them — all classic Asperger symptoms. “Bones” creator Hart Hanson says he based Brennan in part on an Aspie friend, but the needs of a broadcast network like Fox to get as large an audience as possible meant he couldn’t come out and say that. “If we were on cable, we would have said from the beginning that Brennan has Asperger’s,” Hanson says. “Instead, it being a network, we decided not to label a main character, for good or for bad. But those elements are in there.” Now that “Bones” is an established hit, Hanson has thought about a storyline for next season where Brennan explores the idea that she has Asperger’s. But he shares the concern of the “Big Bang” writers. “We’d have to get it absolutely right,” Hanson says. “If you don’t get it right, you’re damaging people.”

I say that it’s time to address the issue and the character completely. People with Asperger’s are very capable of having good relationships and living rewarding lives. It’s time that TV showed it for what it is.
What are your thoughts about the possibility of Brennan having Asperger’s? Does it make a difference in the way you view the character? Does it help give a better understanding of both Asperger’s and Brennan?
I welcome your respectful comments.
This is an absolutely insanely wonderful clip showing why on Bones, it’s best to be King of the Lab!
Michaela Conlin talks about what makes a person the King of the Lab, then there are tons of great bits of Hodgins blowing things up and causing chaos in the lab. It’s fabulous!!!

This is a fascinating interview with Bones creator Hart Hanson. In it, the interviewer asked him if we will find out in the 100th episode that Booth & Brennan have already “done it.” What if, when they first met, they were intimate with each other and it caused problems?
Hart is amazingly vague. How can a person say so little, but with so much emphasis? You’ve gotta love him!
